And after collating more than a thousand responses, the answer is clear: The future of our democracy is at the front and center.
We’ve lived through one of the most fragile moments ever in this nation’s democracy. We all saw with our own eyes the attack on our nation’s Capitol in 2021, but other threats may be less overt:
- Anti-voter legislation and gerrymandering that allows politicians to choose their voters, instead of the other way around — like what we’ve seen in North Carolina over and over again.
- The erosion of governmental norms and attacks on civil servants and institutions that help this country function.
- Attempts to undermine the separation of powers.
- And a Republican Party that has refused to stand up in defense of this country’s democracy.
John, Roy Cooper stands ready to protect our democracy and our right to the ballot box. He will not be silenced by radical politicians who would rather no one question their hold on power. He will defend the fundamental right of the American people to determine our own future.
