Last night, during a 20-minute passionate defense of free speech in America, Jimmy Kimmel pointed out that a couple right-wing media goliaths are still blocking the public from watching his show.

"We are now on the air in most of the country except ironically for Washington, DC …We are off the air in Nashville, New Orleans, Portland Oregon, Salt Lake City, and St. Louis." And he mentioned Seattle.

We're asking those who live in the local areas identified by Kimmel to call their local stations. But you also have a role.

Can you call Sinclair Broadcasting and Nexstar's corporate offices right now? Tell them to put Kimmel back on the air and to stop attacking free speech in America. Click here for the number and a script.

Kimmel made clear the wider stakes here for our country:

"This show is not important. What is important is that we get to live in a country that allows us to have a show like this.

"That’s something I’m embarrassed to say I took for granted until they pulled my friend Stephen off the air and tried to coerce the affiliates who run our show in the cities that you live in to take my show off the air. That’s not legal. That’s not American. That is un-American and it is so dangerous…

"We have to speak out against this because he’s not stopping."

NBC News reports, "Nexstar and Sinclair both have pending business before the Trump administration’s Federal Communications Commission…Nexstar is seeking FCC approval for a proposed $6.2 billion merger and Sinclair is exploring merger options for its broadcast business."
