Hi there,

You have helped us prove time and again that letter writing continues to be a worthwhile tactic for increasing voter turnout—especially in “low salience” elections where the stakes are high but awareness of the election is low. And by embracing what the Vote Forward community does best—developing and testing smart, creative voter contact strategies—we’re continuing to innovate so we can be on the frontlines of what comes next.

This year, we’re pioneering a new strategy in our Pennsylvania Supreme Court campaign, in which we’re not only sending letters to encourage voters to cast their ballots—but are also inviting them to respond back to us. For the first time, voters can call or text a number printed in their letter and connect directly with a member of our Voter Support Team.

This reciprocal approach transforms a one-time, one-way outreach into an opportunity for deeper dialogue—and with folks calling and texting the line every day, we’re already learning from this new tactic. The Voter Support Team is made up entirely of dedicated volunteers like you, and without them, experimenting with this new strategy simply wouldn’t be possible. They answer phone calls and texts from Pennsylvania voters 7 days a week, from 9am to 9pm ET.

One of the trained team members answering the phones and having conversations with voters about this election is Dave, a volunteer who’s been writing letters with Vote Forward since 2018.

At first, Dave wrote maybe a hundred letters at home. Then he invited his friends and family, and today, he organizes letter-writing parties with 30-40 people at a time. Together they write thousands of letters over the course of a campaign. Now, he’s helping us pioneer this new strategy by answering calls and texts from voters in Pennsylvania.

Letters from Dave’s Letter Writing Parties

Here’s how Dave describes what motivates him:

“Getting others involved in making a difference is incredibly rewarding—you become a force multiplier. I know that I'm just one person, but I also know that my community is filled with thoughtful, caring people who want to make the world a better place. It's really rewarding to help harness that energy.”

Dave has some advice for folks who want to get involved, but aren’t sure where to start: “Just do it! You can log on, write a few letters, and see how it feels. I promise you it’s easier than you think and more empowering than you might imagine.”

Every letter we send gets us closer to a stronger democracy where everyone is represented. And as we test this new reciprocal approach, we’ll keep you updated on what we’re hearing from voters and what we’re learning along the way. Together, we can help shape the future of voter engagement.

Thank you for being part of this work,
