Women and girls in Afghanistan are struggling in the wake of a tragic earthquake.
With limited access to sanitation, food, hygiene, and shelter supplies, the conditions they’re facing threaten their health and their lives.
UNFPA urgently seeks donations to support critical, lifesaving relief to 140,000 people in earthquake-affected areas. Will you step up to provide a lifeline for those in need? [[link removed]?]

Due to sweeping U.S. funding cuts for UNFPA’s lifesaving work, mothers, pregnant women, their babies, and families in need are suffering .
In villages across Afghanistan, this aid sustained the only medical care available to pregnant women and their families for miles. But after U.S. funds were withdrawn, 500 of these vital clinics were forced to shut down.
The BBC launched an investigation into the impact these closures have on maternal deaths in Afghanistan. Their findings are devastating.
Pregnant women have been forced to give birth in taxis after arriving at closed clinics. Mothers and their babies have lost their lives. Grieving families across the region have been left wondering if the outcome would be different if medical care were still available.

UNFPA, through its partners, has deployed five mobile health teams to affected areas, providing essential maternal and reproductive healthcare, psychosocial support, and general medical services. The teams have so far reached 9,500 people with lifesaving care.

Zainab receives a clean delivery kit from a midwife of the mobile health team. The kit ensures that Zainab will have clean supplies to deliver safely should she give birth outside of a health facility during the emergency situation.
Zainab told us, “We have lost everything. I am pregnant, my children are still nursing their injuries, we have no proper shelter, and my husband does not have any source of income to sustain us. Life is very hard for us now.” She is especially grateful for the UNFPA-supported Mobile Health Team that has provided maternal healthcare to ensure that she and her unborn child are healthy.
We need your help to continue this critical work.
Your donation can help us sustain these mobile health teams, ensuring that no woman has to face childbirth alone and that every family has access to the medical care they desperately need. Please consider making a gift today to support women and families in Afghanistan. Your contribution can make an immediate impact in saving lives. [[link removed]?]
