won’t solve anything

Sheldon Whitehouse Senator for Rhode Island

Team,

Everywhere you look, the Trump administration is trying to reverse the progress we’ve made on climate change. If they get their way, they will drag us back to the bad old days when Big Oil could get rich polluting our air and water without consequences.

Take what’s known as the “endangerment finding” — EPA’s determination that greenhouse gases are a serious threat to public health. It may sound a little obscure, but this finding actually underpins much of what the federal government has done to reduce pollution over the past decade and a half (think air quality standards for cars, power plants, and planes). Trump wants to scrap it.

The Trump administration is trying to prevent offshore wind farms from getting built, kneecapping a growing industry that is poised to create lots of jobs and bring an influx of affordable clean energy onto the grid. Polluters would much prefer families pay higher electric bills as long as it means keeping dirtier energy sources flowing.

This pro-polluter EPA has also announced that it’s going to stop telling anyone how much pollution big industrial facilities and power plants contribute to climate change.

Let’s get one thing straight: ending crime reports wouldn't make the world safer; ending disease reports wouldn't make the world healthier; and ending pollution reports definitely won't make the world cleaner.

Scrapping the endangerment finding, kneecapping solar and wind, and ending pollution reporting will allow Big Oil to poison our air with even less accountability — even more payback for Trump’s fossil fuel bankrollers. It’s just never enough for these guys.

This is all the result of a decades-long, multi-billion-dollar covert influence operation run by the fossil fuel industry. The playbook is based on fake science propagated by a small stable of “scientists,” who are on the payroll of fossil fuel. The goal is to protect the industry’s lucrative pollute-for-free business model and leave the American people footing the bill. I’ve been the only one calling out the rotten scheme for a long time now.

I’m taking on Trump and his crew of looters and polluters in Washington so we can defeat the climate denial machine and leave a safe, livable planet to our kids and grandkids. I can’t do it alone.

Will you pitch in to flip the Senate blue next year so Democrats can fight for our planet and put a check on this corruption?

Thank you,

Sheldon Whitehouse
