This is important, John: In a 6-3
decision earlier this week, the U.S. Supreme Court let Donald Trump get
away with another MASSIVE power-grab to benefit giant corporations and
billionaires like himself.
Trump fired both Democrats on the Federal Trade Commission, which
historically has three members from the sitting president’s party and two
members from the opposing party. This critical agency is in charge of
protecting consumers and enforcing antitrust laws to stop corporate
corruption.

said they will consider whether to overrule a landmark Supreme Court
precedent that has limited the president's ability to fire top officials
at the agency.
The FTC’s mission is “protecting the public from deceptive or unfair
business practices and from unfair methods of competition through law
enforcement, advocacy, research, and education.” It is crucial that this
agency remain fair and independent from executive overreach.
Justice Elena Kagan warned that the Court’s far-right supermajority “has
handed full control of…agencies to the president” again and again through
shadow docket orders like this one, eliminating the bipartisanship and
independence of agencies such as the FTC – ultimately putting Americans at
risk and opening the door to more corruption.
Trump’s hand-picked loyalists and the rest of the conservative justices on
the Court are on the brink of throwing 90 years of legal precedent out the
window and expanding Trump’s authority EVEN MORE, all at the expense of
working people and our democracy.
