I wanted to share an urgent update. ICE has been operating across Chicagoland and throughout Illinois, and I wanted answers about their presence in our state.
Using my position as Ranking Member of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Appropriations, I requested information from ICE. Here’s what they told me:
They did not provide any public safety or other data to justify the increased operations.
They did not share metrics to determine when the surge will end.
The surge will continue until Trump commands otherwise.
So far, ICE has detained hundreds of our fellow Illinoisans, separating families and shipping people to other states. Enough is enough. We do not want ICE on our streets, and it’s time to hold them accountable for the harm they’re causing.
