Dear Mr. xxxxxx,
A Celebration of Charlie Kirk
Two weeks ago, my friend Charlie Kirk was horrifically killed while was using his first amendment right to free speech, participating in peaceful political discourse with students on a college campus where argument and debate are historically supposed to be celebrated. Many people within our great country and around the world have been in mourning since this tragedy.
On Sunday, the world paused and watched a celebration of life for Charlie Kirk. It was a beautiful ceremony filled with worship and praise as 90,000 people attended the service at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
We will continue to pray for Charlie Kirk’s wife Erika, their children, his family, his friends, and the Turning Point USA staff during this difficult time

Funding the Government and Keeping Spending Flat
Last week, the House of Representatives voted on a continuing resolution, that I supported, to fund the federal government until the end of November. Continuing resolutions are not my favorite way of doing business as Congress should pass all twelve appropriations bills. However, in a town like Washington, D.C., keeping government spending flat is a small win. Keeping the government funded allows the administration to continue to identify and cut the wasteful spending from years past.
The Senate is now considering the continuing resolution. Unfortunately, Senate Democrats are currently threatening a government shutdown over trillions in unrelated policy demands including an expansion of COVID-era Obamacare enhanced subsidies. I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues to ensure unnecessary and wasteful subsidies are not extended and the government remains temporarily funded.
Keeping Passports Sane
It was announced last week that the Trump administration is asking the Supreme Court to allow it to enforce a policy requiring male or female sex designations on official State Department documents like passports.
This is good news. Government documents, including passports, should reflect the reality that there are two genders – male and female. No “X” options.
My bill, H.R. 1139, the Passport Sanity Act, would permanently end radical gender ideology on U.S. passports. Congress should consider this legislation and ensure that our passports are grounded in reality.
Hill County Flood Information - DEADLINE APPROACHING for FEMA/SBA
Federal assistance for Flood impacts extended to September 28, 2025
Homeowners and renters who were affected by the July flooding in Central Texas now have until Sunday, Sept. 28, to apply for federal disaster assistance if your home or personal property sustained damage not covered by insurance. Under the major presidential disaster declaration, 10 counties were designated for assistance from FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration for the July 2-18 storms and flooding: Burnet, Guadalupe, Kerr, Kimble, McCulloch, Menard, San Saba, Tom Green, Travis and Williamson.
FEMA works closely with the Small Business Administration, which provides disaster loans to homeowners, renters, nonprofit organizations and businesses of all sizes.
The fastest way to apply for FEMA assistance is online at DisasterAssistance.gov and you will need an email address to apply. You may also use the FEMA mobile app or call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621- 3362. Helpline specialists speak many languages and phone lines are open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. CT daily. If you use a relay service, captioned telephone or other service, you can give FEMA your number for that service.
To receive in-person assistance, you may visit any Disaster Recovery Center. For locations and hours, use your ZIP code to search FEMA.gov/DRC. To view an accessible video, review What You Need to Know Before Applying for FEMA Assistance.
To apply for a loan from the Small Business Administration, go to SBA.gov/disaster. You may also call SBA’s Customer Service Center at 800-659-2955 or email [email protected].

Please be aware of fraud:
FEMA has issued public alerts about scams associated with disaster recovery efforts.
- Claiming to be from FEMA but lacking a photo ID
- Asking for payment in exchange for disaster aid
- Requesting banking or personal info
If you receive a letter or visit from FEMA but didn’t apply for aid, contact the FEMA Fraud Branch at [email protected] or call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362 from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
Many residents are receiving letters from FEMA that say “declined” at the top. This can be because FEMA needs more information to approve a claim.
National POW/MIA Recognition Day
Last week, our country paused and reflected on National POW/MIA Recognition Day. We honor those who were held as prisoners of war and those still missing in action.
May their service, sacrifice, and heroism never be forgotten.
