Friend, For the past several weeks, NILC and its partners have been in the thick of a legal battle to protect hundreds of vulnerable immigrant children whom the Trump administration tried to unlawfully deport to danger. Thankfully, we prevailed in court, and the government is prohibited from trying to remove our young clients as the case proceeds. But that doesn’t mean our fight is over — in fact, we are writing with a request for urgent action from you. In court, the government claimed that they were trying to reunify children with family members who had requested their return. But in our lawsuit, we represent both orphans and children who have expressed fear for their lives if returned to Guatemala. And just days ago, a whistleblower’s report to Congress revealed that, in the government’s own assessment, over two dozen of these children had been flagged as vulnerable to child abuse and human trafficking. This directly contradicted a sworn testimony by a senior health official and revealed a troubling pattern of misrepresented facts to justify the targeting of vulnerable children. The Trump administration clearly violated the law and abused its authority. As our case moves forward, it’s important that we do everything we can to hold this administration accountable. And with alarming reports that they want to target unaccompanied children from other countries, we need oversight from Congress. That’s why we’re asking you to take action today. Urge your members of Congress to: Engage in oversight and investigation into these or future planned actions to illegally expel unaccompanied children Keep regular communication with legal service providers and advocates working with unaccompanied children in your state Support constituents and their families in your district who might be at risk
Every email you send makes our collective demand louder and harder to ignore. Please send a message to your representatives today.
