1. New Liberal Action Summit Updates |
Our most ambitious New Liberal Action Summit yet is just 4 weeks away! We’re so excited to welcome New Liberals from across the country and abroad to Washington, DC, from October 20-21. Amid a shifting political landscape and renewed debates over the future of the Democratic Party, NLAS 2025 is convening the next generation of center-left leaders to chart a winning path forward. Through policy, training, and coalition-building, this year’s summit will focus on rebuilding trust, expanding our appeal, and advancing liberal values in a post-2024 political era.
Our speaker list is growing and we’ll be adding many other special guests to the agenda in coming weeks. We’re excited to welcome fantastic elected officials like Rep. Janelle Bynum, Rep. Scott Peters, Rep. Josh Harder, and former Senator Doug Jones to the stage this year. We are also thrilled to have legends like political scientist Francis Fukuyama, and Poppy Northcutt, the first woman to work in NASA’s Mission Control on the Apollo missions to NLAS for the first time. Check out our full speaker list here: https://cnliberalism.org/nlas-2025-speakers

3. 2025 Steering Committee Elections |
We’ll also be electing our next Steering Committee at NLAS 2025! CNL’s Steering Committee consists of nine members - seven U.S.-based members and two international members. The Steering Committee represents CNL members in guiding the direction of the organization and advising on our mission to promote liberal ideas across the globe. This year's election will take place online and in person at NLAS. Online voting will open on Tuesday, October 14th and end Sunday, October 19th, but if you’re attending NLAS, plan on voting in person at the conference. |

Radio Abundance by YIMBY Democrats for America | NYC Chooses Between YIMBYism and Feudalism: Tibita Kaneene on Radio Abundance Ft. Tibita Kaneene, NYC New Liberals | September 8
“New York City has 3 major pro-housing initiatives on the ballot that NYC New Liberals Political Director Tibita Kaneene thinks might be bigger than City of Yes. As we speak, however, NIMBY elected officials are mobilizing with dirty tricks to protect their own “member deference” vetocracy-of-one, a practice that Congressman Ritchie Torres called “municipal feudalism” on his own episode of Radio Abundance.”
Los Angeles Daily News | It's Time for Los Angeles to get the 'Abundance' memo By Thomas Irwin, LA New Liberals | September 9
“California lawmakers should ignore the city’s complaints and prioritize the best interests of Los Angeles residents. And that almost certainly means ignoring the complaints of Los Angeles elected officials and passing SB 79.” The xxxxxx | Is This Who We Are?
By Jeremiah Johnson, Co-founder of CNL | September 11
“That Kirk was assassinated at work on this mission is a horrible tragedy. That he leaves behind a wife and two young children is an unspeakable one. But don’t just mourn for them; mourn for yourself. Liberalism is a fragile thing; once lost, who knows if we’ll ever get it back? As Jeremiah Johnson wrote last year, after the attempted assassination of Donald Trump." Next City | California's Key Environmental Law Is Blocking its Path to Carbon Neutrality By Thomas Irwin, LA New Liberals | September 22
“This is evident in California cities. Despite local governments planning and zoning for denser housing, many modest infill housing projects were still subject to review under CEQA, a process that is both redundant and actively harmful.” |

Building America Faster Ft. Congressman Josh Harder
What is the Build America Caucus? Representative Josh Harder joins the podcast to discuss why he founded the Build America Caucus, why he still believes in bipartisanship, and how to implement the best ideas for building more housing, infrastructure and energy.
The Rise of Political Violence in America
Charlie Kirk was assassinated yesterday, and sadly that kind of political violence is no longer unusual in America. The last few years have seen a blitz of assassination attempts, bombings, shootings and more. Why is political violence rising in America? How should liberals respond? And is there anything we can do to stop it? |
