Dear NRDC Supporter,
Yesterday, President Trump used his speech to the United Nations to launch a tirade against climate action and renewable energy. He dismissed the climate crisis as "the greatest con job ever," even as communities around the globe are facing hotter heat waves, stronger storms, and devastating floods.
NRDC President Manish Bapna put it plainly in his response:
"Who's conning who? Whether it's floods in Texas or Pakistan, extreme heat in Phoenix or Delhi, or storm surges in Florida or the Philippines, millions of people around the world are experiencing the reality of more extreme weather caused by climate change. The science is clear and settled. Climate change is here and happening."
President Trump's words are reckless and dangerous; NRDC is responding with facts, science, and the law.
Just this week, we submitted 56,000 formal comments from NRDC supporters opposing the Trump administration's plan to roll back the Endangerment Finding, the landmark ruling that climate change is a threat to health and welfare and that provides critical legal rationale for reducing climate pollution. NRDC's legal team is preparing to defend the Endangerment Finding in court, if that's what it takes.
And that's only one part of what we've done together. With the support of our members, here's what NRDC is also doing:
- In court to stop the Trump administration from delaying rules that limit dangerous methane pollution from the oil and gas industry.
- Exposing administration efforts to freeze or cancel more than $29 billion in clean energy funding, blocking programs that would lower household costs and reduce pollution.
- Fighting in and out of court to stop the Trump administration's push to open the Arctic and our coasts to climate-busting oil and gas drilling.
- Defending wind power and other clean energy projects across the country from the Trump administration's efforts to shut them down.
- Continuing to drive international action by working with the more than 190 countries still in the Paris climate agreement.
This is why your support is essential.
Please make a tax-deductible gift today to help block the worst of the Trump administration's climate rollbacks, defend our clean air and safe water, and build a future worth passing on to future generations.
Anyone looking out their window knows climate change is here and happening. And expanding renewable energy and cutting emissions creates jobs, reduces electricity costs, and makes good economic sense.
President Trump's comments coming in front of the international community makes them that much more troubling and increasingly isolates the U.S. as the world moves forward to address the climate crisis.
That's what makes our response so important, and your support so critical.
Thank you for standing with us. Thank you for standing up for science. And thank you for taking a stand for the planet we all share.
Sincerely,
NRDC
