1) Liberals Desperately Seeking a Government Shutdown
As we mentioned yesterday, the Left is cratering in the polls on almost every issue: the economy, taxes, crime, immigration, and so on.
They’re desperate for a game changer, and they think they’ve found one in a government shutdown. They know that for the past 40 years, Republicans have almost always taken the blame. So Chuck Schumer wants a budget stalemate, a shutdown of nonessential programs, and a compliant media to blame Trump.
The Senate Democrats latest scam is to filibuster any bill to fund the government that doesn't repeal virtually all of the health care budget savings in President Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill. That bill saved hundreds of billions of dollars by taking illegal aliens and income-ineligible people off the Medicaid rolls, adding work requirements for non-disabled working-age adults to Medicaid, and expanding HSAs. All popular measures.
President Trump correctly says no to these hostage-taking conditions.

Schumer is also demanding extension of emergency COVID health insurance subsidies that eliminated income caps and made taxpayers pay more than 90% of all Obamacare premiums. This has allowed insurance premiums to skyrocket.
Next year, with the COVID credits expired, taxpayers will still be on the hook for about 80% of premiums (no wonder the insurance companies are all in), which is not enough for Schumer:

These are the real reasons the Left is forcing a government shutdown.

2) Maybe This Is Why Inner-City High School Drop Out Rates Are So High
This is from a recent article about New York City schools:
The U.S. education system has wrestled for decades with an endemic problem: Boredom is pervasive in high school. A disengaged teenager is a teenager in danger of dropping out.
Dan Klores, the gray-bearded, Brooklyn-raised founder of the Earl Monroe School, wanted to chart a new course…
Early on, Mr. Klores conducted a survey of the 110 students in the inaugural ninth-grade class, posing a simple question: “What more do I want out of school?”
He pored through the responses. An unexpected answer repeatedly emerged.
“To learn how to make money.”
It’s nice to know these young kids want to be successful capitalists. Too bad the schools don’t teach them how.

3) Progressives Were for Government Censorship Before They Were Against It
The Left has been howling in indignation that the Trump FCC tried to get ABC to fire Jimmy Kimmel. We’ve agreed with them that this pressure violated freedom of speech principles.
How ironic that House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan has now exposed the Biden Administration’s continual and arguably illegal campaign to strongarm Google into de-platforming conservative voices.
In the chilling letter to Jordan, Google reveals that "senior Biden Administration officials including at the White House pressed Google to deplatform certain voices" on "issues related to COVID-19 and elections." Those "voices" were conservatives. Google rightly concludes that these pressure tactics forced "the removal of lawful content" and that this censorship was "unacceptable and wrong."

No president in modern times abused the power of government to silence their opponents in reckless disregard to First Amendment free speech rights more than Joe Biden. Bravo to Google and Jim Jordan for shining sunlight on this travesty.

4) Finally a President Speaks Truth About Climate Change Hysteria
We’ve been demonstrating for years on these pages that the climate change industrial complex has been the greatest waste of $1 Trillion in world history and that the war against cheap and abundant fossil fuels is a war against economic progress. Now we have a president who rightly lectures the European leaders and UN bureaucrats of the dangers of climate hysteria:
“This ‘climate change,’ it’s the greatest con job ever perpetrated on the world, in my opinion. All of these predictions made by the United Nations and many others, often for bad reasons, were wrong. They were made by stupid people that have cost their countries fortunes and given those same countries no chance for success. If you don’t get away from this green scam, your country is going to fail.”
Amen.
Unfortunately, the last people who will accept these simple truths are in the media. Here is the Associated Press "news" coverage of Trump's speech:
Some countries’ leaders are watching rising seas ([link removed]) threaten to swallow their homes. Others are watching their citizens die in floods ([link removed]) , hurricanes and heat waves, all exacerbated by climate change.
But the world U.S. President Donald Trump described in his speech at the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday didn’t match the one many world leaders in the audience are contending with. Nor did it align with what scientists have long been observing.”
Will they ever give up?

5) Former California High Speed Funds: Repurposing for Transit Safety
The Trump Administration has announced its intention to redirect $2.4 billion funding previously awarded to the California High-Speed Rail Authority for fiscal year 2024 to its new National Railroad Partnership Program.
The Trump Administration has now clawed back approximately $4 billion from the high-speed rail, noting its unprecedented cost escalation that has spiraled out of control.
The present "Phase 1" plan for the initial San Francisco to Los Angeles line could cost as much as $135 billion, more than four times projections.

The new program will focus on safety and end DEI requirements.
