Hi friend,
With all of the disturbing things happening in our politics, government, and society right now, I’m worried that Americans are beginning to accept this as the way things will be, no matter what. In other words, I’m worried that too many Americans are underestimating their own power.
We are, obviously, witnessing a profound series of tests of our democracy, and the day-to-day results have been mixed at best. Maps are being redrawn in order to cut voters out of the democratic process. Voices are being silenced by government pressure, because they are critical of the people in charge of our government. Leaders are allowing abuses to take place even though they knew better.
Even so, it is vital to remember that a majority of the American people are not on board with all this - and that the American people are still in charge. That’s why it’s so important to address the American people, wherever we can get a hearing, and to amplify other leaders who do the same.
The people in charge of Washington today understand some things about power. But their way only works if we forget the most important thing about power in America, which is that we, the people, are always in charge of what happens next.
When we organize, step up, speak out, and demand better, we can change the course of history.
I’m proud of what we’ve already done together, and grateful for your continued support. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps fuel this work and allows us to show rather than tell how politics in this country can be different.
That’s why I am asking: Will you chip in to help me continue my work of building a better kind of politics and standing up for the core values of our democracy?
