In the Darfur region of Sudan, the ongoing civil war is threatening the lives of people who are already vulnerable—many of them women and girls. Because of insecurity, checkpoints, and a lack of affordable transportation, many pregnant women must take day-long treks by foot or donkey to access care. This often results in delivery complications, miscarriages, or death.
US government cuts to humanitarian aid are only making an already challenging situation worse. Since last year, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) teams have been working in Zalingei Teaching Hospital and Murnei Hospital, providing maternity care and other services. But people urgently need more support.
