John:
Good Morning from Capitol Hill.
The House and Senate are out of session this week.
Last week, the House passed ([link removed]) a Continuing Resolution (CR) that extends current funding levels to November 21, 2025. Shortly after House passage, the Senate vote failed ([link removed]) 44-48. As both chambers head into recess, the funding deadline on September 30th looms.
In exchange for supporting a CR, Democrats have largely been demanding an extension of expiring COVID-era Obamacare subsidies, which are normally considered separately from an extension of funding. Republicans have said attaching that extension to a CR is a non-starter ([link removed]) .
President Trump had a meeting scheduled this week with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, at their request, to discuss all of this. He cancelled it on Tuesday morning, announcing on Truth Social ([link removed]) that he found their demands for concessions “unserious and ridiculous.”
With the House already having passed a CR to November, the ball is in the Senate’s court. While Senate Democrats blocked the House’s CR, expect Senate Majority Leader John Thune to bring it up again as September 30th nears.
In the meantime, the shocking assassination of Charlie Kirk still remains raw in the lives of millions of people. Turning Point USA (TPUSA) has shared the immense surge in the number of requests for TPUSA Chapters. They have received ([link removed]) 54,00 inquiries to start new chapters on college campuses, according to Andrew Kolvet, the Executive Producer of “The Charlie Kirk Show.”
There have been hundreds of vigils honoring the life and legacy of Charlie Kirk. His picture was carried in protests all over the world, most notably ([link removed]) in the “Unite the Kingdom” rally in London. At his memorial on Sunday, Charlie’s widow gave us a powerful statement of the Christian walk when she publicly forgave ([link removed]) the man who took her husband’s life.

One More Thing…
Late night host turned political commentator Jimmy Kimmel was recently taken off air by Disney/ABC for the crass lies he told about the political affiliation of Charlie Kirk’s assassin. This came as Sinclair and Nexstar Media Group, two large affiliates, announced they would no longer carry Kimmel’s show on their airwaves. Late Monday night, Disney/ABC announced ([link removed]) Kimmel would return – however, as of Tuesday, Sinclair and Nexstar are still holding firm ([link removed]) in their suspension.
Watch here ([link removed]) as Federal Communications Chairman Brendan Carr simply and clearly explains how FCC broadcasting licenses work, the responsibilities of broadcasters, and what he calls the Left’s “Projection and Distortion” around this issue.
