In another move to destabilize our economy, Trump has asked the United States Supreme Court to allow him to remove Lisa Cook as a member of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. On Monday, they ruled in his favor. At this point, Republicans aren’t even trying to hide their efforts to undermine the foundations of our democracy.
Trump and his cronies have been working overtime to replace independent federal employees with MAGA loyalists. By doing so, Trump is giving himself free rein to do whatever he pleases without consequence – and Republicans in the House are applauding his every move.
Putting MAGA cronies on the Federal Reserve specifically could have outsized and devastating economic consequences. With inflation and unemployment on the rise (in no small part thanks to Trump’s chaotic tariffs), it’s essential that this body maintains its independence. The future of our economy hangs in the balance.
