For the past decade, SiX has been proud to work alongside a remarkable team of State Directors who have supported legislators and communities in driving change across the country. As we sunset this program, we’re celebrating its wins while reimagining our work to meet today’s challenges. Our commitment to all 50 states remains strong, and this fall, we’re launching new initiatives to empower legislators to protect communities and build a resilient democracy.

SiX at the National Organization for Black Elected Legislative Women Conference

It was a huge honor for SiX’s Reproductive Freedom Leadership Council to be part of the 40th annual NOBEL Women Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, at the beginning of September. A complete success, the event felt like going back to see family and was full of learning, community-building, and inspiration!

The Atlas for Values-Based Aquaculture

SiX, alongside strategic movement partners, continues our commitment to sustainable aquaculture topics and to defending our oceans from industrial harm. In 2024, SiX’s Coastal Convening in Seattle, WA, brought together legislators, global advocates, tribes, and local and state agencies for a three-day aquaculture workshop.

Since the Coastal Convening, SiX has joined an international steering committee to develop The Atlas, a new values-based resource for aquaculture organizing and policy. This work is increasingly vital as the current administration pushes dangerous policies that would open vast areas of the ocean to industrial development, all while eliminating environmental safeguards.

The Atlas Project is currently gathering feedback from stakeholders, including state legislators, on the resources that would be most useful in building a sustainable, values-based aquaculture economy.

We are excited to announce the new Special Session Toolkit: State Solutions to Federal Tax Bill, created in partnership with the State Revenue Alliance (SRA).

This toolkit is designed to provide legislators, advocates, and organizations with the resources needed to act swiftly and drive tax justice progress in 2025 special sessions and into the 2026 legislative sessions.

The toolkit is a living document, and we encourage you to use what works, request additional resources, and share your own contributions to add.

Nearly 150 Elected Officials Sign SiX’s Letter Calling for the UN to Continue Universal Periodic Review

SiX organized an urgent letter demanding that the United Nations Human Rights Council continue the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of the U.S. despite the Trump administration’s withdrawal. With nearly 150 signatures from state and local officials across the U.S., the letter condemns the federal government’s retreat from accountability and affirms that human rights cannot wait. By speaking with one voice, these elected leaders send a clear message: the U.S. must face global scrutiny and uphold its human rights commitments, regardless of current tactics in Washington.
