Dear Democrats, As Americans, we value our freedom, especially those protected by the First Amendment of the Constitution. But Republicans and the Trump Administration have been ignoring these fundamental rights to take retribution on political opponents and try to control what Americans watch and say. Every American should be extremely troubled that the President would attempt to control what people say about him, intimidate the press, or use the power of government as a means to silence political opponents. On top of that, the use of the regulatory power of the FCC to blatantly abrogate the First Amendment rights of comedians, or anyone else, is as bad as it gets.
This issue supersedes partisan allegiances, which is why DPNM teamed up with the Libertarian Party of New Mexico to release a joint statement in defense of the Constitution. |
DPNM and the Libertarian Party of New Mexico certainly have some disagreements on substantive issues, but being able to have these disagreements underscores what makes our country so great. Today, our parties are in strong agreement that Americans need to speak out as our most fundamental freedoms are under attack like never before. Thank you, NM Democrats |
