Tell Congress to Demand Answers from Brendan Carr > [link removed]

Friend,

Yesterday, Disney/ABC announced that Jimmy Kimmel will return to the airwaves beginning with tonight’s show. This is a win for free speech and wouldn’t have happened without the massive public backlash that called attention to objectionable behavior from the FCC Chairman and corporate bosses at Disney/ABC, Nexstar and Sinclair.

For now two of the nation’s largest broadcast conglomerates, Nexstar and Sinclair, are refusing to air the program on their stations1 even though Disney/ABC decided to restore Jimmy Kimmel Live!. Meanwhile, it just so happens that Nexstar is about to ask the FCC to approve its merger with fellow broadcaster, Tegna, which would give it access to 80 percent of the country’s television viewers.

To anyone watching, it sure looks suspicious. Brendan Carr and these media companies insist that they did not share any direct communication and that administration-friendly broadcast decisions were made independent of one another … but Carr’s “we can do this the easy way or the hard way” guest spot on an extremist podcast made it perfectly clear what he wanted to happen. (He’s now claiming that’s not what he meant, but who’s falling for that?) We need real answers and we need them fast.

Add your name to our petition urging Congress to bring in Brendan Carr for a hearing and make him answer for his corruption. *One click on the link or button will instantly add your name to our petition if we have your details on file.*

To Members of Congress:

FCC Chairman Brendan Carr’s actions around the Jimmy Kimmel suspension are beyond the pale. The American people saw him violate his oath to protect and defend the U.S. Constitution as he overtly threatened and intimidated broadcasters into silencing free speech. Regardless of which party holds power in D.C., the federal government should not be in the business of censoring differing opinions.

Summon Chairman Carr to Capitol Hill and demand answers for his abuse of office.

The next time the Trump administration uses its power to shut down dissent, a rich and famous comedian likely won’t be the target. We are seeing journalists being fired and even deported for simply reporting the facts about this administration. Their stories are not all making headline news, but the government’s attacks on their speech are no less important.

The Trump regime is attempting to deport an innocent journalist, Mario Guevara, who it has been holding without charges for 100 days. The Pentagon is trying to force reporters to sign a blatantly unconstitutional pledge in exchange for press credentials. The list goes on and on — and so must our protests.

That’s what makes this a bipartisan issue, about which even Ted Cruz agrees.2 The federal government, no matter who holds power, should never have the ability or the inclination to silence critics and extort private businesses to carry out their bidding. Congressional hearings are necessary to get to the bottom of this. Make Carr answer for what he’s done and ensure that we don’t lose sight of the First Amendment.

Tell Congress: Hold Brendan Carr accountable. Defend freedom of speech and freedom of the press. *One click on the link or button will instantly add your name to our petition if we have your details on file.*
