Dear friend,
It’s your Congresswoman, Gwen Moore, giving you an update on how I served you during the August district work period.
Laborfest

It was so good to see many of you all at Laborfest! Labor Day is a time to reflect on the hard-fought efforts to secure safe working conditions and access to family-supporting wages for working people. I am committed to building on this work, so that everyone can have economic opportunity.
Milwaukee’s Mexican Fiesta Ceremony

Milwaukee’s Mexican Fiesta Ceremony was such a vibrant celebration, and I really enjoyed the beautiful music and dance!
Addressing Substance Use in Milwaukee

Opioid settlement funding is supporting efforts that will help save lives and help make critical interventions. I joined local leaders at DryHootch to highlight how their new legislation will support data analysis, outreach to older adults, residential treatment, and more.
Celebrating Social Security

This year, Social Security turned 90 years old, and I celebrated with AARP Wisconsin! Social Security is an earned benefit that has provided economic security for millions of Americans. As it faces attacks from all angles, I will continue working hard to protect and strengthen this lifeline.
Thanking our Courageous First Responders

After experiencing historic flooding in our area, I toured impacted areas and had the opportunity to thank our hardworking first responders, who worked around the clock to help Milwaukee residents.
Talking with Aurora Leadership

I had a productive conversation with the Aurora leadership team. We discussed legislation I am spearheading to improve maternal health and the impact of expiring ACA premium subsidies on the cost of health care for patients. These are pressing issues that I am advancing and magnifying in Congress.
Visiting Children’s Wisconsin Good Hope Clinic

I toured Children’s Wisconsin Good Hope Clinic and had engaging conversations with their team about protecting children’s health. We discussed the role vaccines play in keeping kids healthy and safe, violence prevention and lead poisoning prevention efforts.
Supporting Clean-up Efforts

It was an honor to help my constituents after the flooding and hand out personal protective equipment to help with clean-up efforts.
Talking with the National Black Child Development Institute

The National Black Child Development Institute is working to address inequities and ensure all children can reach their potential. I spoke with their staff to discuss their work and presence in Milwaukee, and how to coordinate at the federal level to advance critical priorities.
Supporting Energy Efficiency in Wisconsin

I joined in recognizing the one-year anniversary of Wisconsin’s Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) Home Efficiency Rebates program, which offers homeowners rebates for energy reducing projects. These incentives help households, especially low-income households, make improvements to lower their energy costs.
Protecting Job Corps

The Administration’s “pausing” of all Job Corps programs created uncertainty for the young people enrolled and its staff, including here in Milwaukee. Students relied on Job Corps for not only career training but also housing. Thankfully, court rulings made Job Corps programs operational again, and I thank Job Corps Milwaukee officials for providing me with important updates on their work and performance.
