Sanctuary Showdown: Ferguson Chooses Politics Over Public Safety

Washington’s Democrat governor Bob Ferguson is at it again, proudly defending the state’s radical sanctuary law while pretending it’s all about “values.” The law — the so-called Keep Washington Working Act — does just the opposite: it blocks local police from working with federal immigration authorities, bans officers from asking about immigration status in non-criminal cases, and even cracks down on information sharing between agencies. In other words, criminals get cover while law enforcement gets handcuffed.

When U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi warned Ferguson that Washington’s obstructionist law could land state and local officials in hot water — even facing criminal charges — Ferguson didn’t flinch. Instead, he called her warning “breathtaking” and accused the Trump administration of dragging America “closer to authoritarianism.” Yes, you read that right: according to Bob, enforcing immigration law is “authoritarian,” but silencing local police and shielding illegal immigrants is somehow freedom.

And he didn’t stand alone. Seattle’s Mayor Bruce Harrell, always eager to play backup singer in the Democrats’ sanctuary choir, joined Ferguson at the press conference to cheer on the state’s defiance of federal law.

Meanwhile, Bondi’s letter spelled out the obvious: Washington’s policies obstruct federal immigration enforcement and give cover to dangerous criminals. Trump has already threatened to cut off federal funding for states and cities that refuse to cooperate — a move Ferguson and his allies are fighting in court. Ferguson, of course, insists he’s confident Washington will win. But Washington families paying the price for his political grandstanding might not share that confidence. Read more at Axios.

Ballots for All—Except Accountability

According to Dale Whitaker, Republican candidate for Washington Secretary of State in 2024, Washington Democrats are once again proving that election integrity is the last thing on their minds. Glenn Morgan exposed that 1 in 7 voters in the state are illegal under federal law, yet Secretary of State Steve Hobbs is refusing to comply with a DOJ request to audit the voter database. Instead of ensuring clean elections, Hobbs hides behind phony “privacy concerns” while dismissing any talk of fraud as a “myth.” His obstruction is nothing more than a political shield to protect Democrats’ narrative that everything is perfect—while evidence piles up that it’s not. The DOJ has already sued Oregon and Maine for the same stonewalling; Washington should be next. If Democrats truly cared about fair elections, they’d welcome verification. Instead, Hobbs and his party keep choosing delay, denial, and dirty voter rolls. Read more at Seattle Red.

Tax-and-Flee Washington

Starting next month, small businesses will be hit with fresh retail sales taxes on advertising services and live presentations. Spokane County businesses face a 9% tax hike on online ads, a move that salon owners, social media managers, and educators say will force higher prices and fewer opportunities. Some, like PNW Hair Co.’s Megz White, already pay thousands for industry classes that will now get even more expensive. Others, like Talk Fast Social’s Erica Norris, warn that the ad tax will hammer every sector. According to the NFIB, business owners are eyeing early retirement or outright relocation to Idaho to escape Olympia’s tax-happy agenda. Once again, Democrats prove they’d rather bleed entrepreneurs dry than foster growth. Read more at KXLY.

Kimmel’s “Comeback” Canceled

ABC may be spinning Jimmy Kimmel’s reinstatement as a “free speech” victory, but viewers in Seattle and 37 other Sinclair markets won’t be seeing it. Sinclair and Nexstar flatly refused to air his show, demanding he apologize to Charlie Kirk’s family and donate to Turning Point USA after his grotesque comments smearing conservatives in the wake of Kirk’s assassination. Democrats and their media allies are quick to cry censorship when their comedians cross the line, but when conservatives are the target, accountability is suddenly a dirty word. Sinclair and Nexstar aren’t buying the spin, proving that sometimes the real joke is on the Left. Read more at Seattle Red.
