Tonight, late-night host Jimmy Kimmel will return to ABC — in spite of the Trump administration’s attempt to suppress his free speech.
It’s clear that Trump and his allies are waging a dangerous and ongoing attack on those who speak out against them — and last week, when FCC Chairman Brendan Carr took to a right-wing podcast to issue thinly veiled threats against Disney, ABC’s parent company, we saw an absolutely chilling attempt at censorship from the federal government.
Censoring those you disagree with, whether they’re making jokes on late-night TV or peacefully protesting on the street, is fundamentally un-American.
We cannot remain silent in the face of these assaults on our First Amendment rights. I’m calling on Chairman Carr to renounce his threats and support the constitutional right to free speech. Add your name today to join me. [[link removed]]
And look — this shouldn’t even be up for debate. Chairman Carr himself has called censorship “the authoritarian’s dream” and denounced it in no uncertain terms back in 2019:
“Should the government censor speech it doesn’t like? Of course not. The FCC does not have a roving mandate to police speech in the name of the ‘public interest.’”
Our government leaders cannot blindly bend the knee to President Trump — and in so doing, abandon the most basic principles and rights of our nation.
Chairman Carr must disavow his threats and commit to using his post at the FCC to support and defend the First Amendment. If you’re with me, please add your name to my petition today. [[link removed]]

I’m glad Jimmy Kimmel will be back on the air tonight — but it doesn’t erase Chairman Carr’s threats, the suppression of free speech over the past week, or the prospect of these threats subduing free speech in the future.
I will never stop fighting for our First Amendment rights, and I’m grateful for your willingness to speak out with me.
—Rob
