Friend,
Just hours before Jimmy Kimmel steps back on stage tonight following his
suspension, he shared a simple, moving post: a photo of himself with
Norman Lear and the words, “Missing this guy today.”

Post from Jimmy Kimmel’s Instagram with People For founder Norman Lear
It’s hard to imagine a more fitting tribute. Norman knew exactly what it
meant to say things that challenged power, that upset people, that
sometimes even shocked the culture – and he spent his life defending the
right to say them anyway.
Last week, Kimmel was forced off the air after Disney and ABC caved to
pressure from a Trump-appointed FCC commissioner and far-right MAGA
operatives. That kind of government intimidation is precisely what Norman
Lear created People For the American Way to fight against. He saw how
authoritarian voices rose in his own lifetime, and he understood the cost
of silence.
Norman believed that free expression – even when controversial – was
essential to democracy. He knew the First Amendment wasn’t meant to
protect the powerful from criticism, but to safeguard dissent. That
conviction is what guided his shows, his activism, and ultimately, the
founding of People For.
Tonight, as Jimmy Kimmel returns to the airwaves, the lesson is clear: we
can’t let intimidation win. If they can target someone as visible as
Kimmel, imagine how quickly journalists, activists, or community leaders
could be silenced.
That’s why People For is pushing back – documenting abuses of power,
mobilizing the public, and defending the First Amendment. But we can’t do
it without your support.

P.S. Even with Jimmy Kimmel back on the air, many Americans still won’t be
able to see him — because their local ABC affiliates are owned by
right-wing corporations aligned with Trump. It’s a stark reminder that our
activism must continue - [ [link removed] ]pitch in now to power that fight >>
