Immigrant youth are leading with resilience as their communities endure relentless attacks on education, economic opportunity, and safety. The Trump administration is following through on its threat to unravel decades of progress in making higher education a pathway to equality and opportunity. By capping federal loans, restricting financial aid, and forcing families into unmanageable private debt, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act all but guarantees that access to advanced education is based on privilege, not merit. The consequences will be felt across communities for generations.
Demetrick Stringer Jr., an intern at the TYP Collaborative, offers two important perspectives that detail what’s at risk:
Graduate education under siege: [[link removed]] The bill eliminates Graduate PLUS loans, creates massive funding gaps for law and medical students, and worsens the exclusion of Black and rural students from professional fields. The fall of financial aid: [[link removed]] New restrictions of Pell and Parent PLUS loans, along with harsher repayment rules, dismantle opportunity for working- and middle-class families and trap future generations in debt.
