John,
Earlier this month, a bipartisan coalition in Congress took a historic step toward accountability by introducing the Restore Trust in Congress Act—landmark legislation that would finally ban members of Congress from trading stocks.
This breakthrough has been years in the making and a major milestone in CREW’s mission to build an ethical government.
This is an issue that matters to a majority of the public, regardless of their political affiliation, and Congress is finally starting to take notice.
Congress has the opportunity to reassure the American people that their voices are being heard and take steps to restore faith in our government institutions. But this won’t happen without public pressure.
That’s why CREW’s calling on Congress to pass the Restore Trust in Congress Act to ban congressional stock trading once and for all. If you’re with us, sign our petition today →
For years, Congress has faced growing public distrust as members of Congress from both sides of the aisle have made questionable trades and owned stock in companies they are in charge of regulating.
That’s why CREW has worked so hard for meaningful reforms to ensure that public servants are working in the best interests of the people they serve—not their own stock portfolios. Public service is a public trust, and it’s time that our laws reflected that.
I’ve testified before Congress about the potential conflicts of interest that arise when members of Congress trade individual stocks in companies, and our team has worked tirelessly to expose suspiciously timed trades and put pressure on congressional leaders to act.
Now, with new momentum behind our fight to ban congressional stock trading, it’s time for Congress to get this done and answer the calls for reform.
CREW is determined to do everything we can to get this bill passed, and we need to show we have overwhelming support from the American people. So we’re coming to you:
Please, join our fight to ban congressional stock trading and sign our petition today to urge Congress to pass the Restore Trust in Congress Act →
Thank you for being a part of this critical work,
Donald Sherman
