‘Everything, everywhere, all at once': Tariffs, costs and disease squeeze Iowa farms
Iowa farmers are feeling the squeeze of Trump’s tariffs. “I tell everybody, it’s everything, everywhere, all at once,” said April Hemmes, who farms about 900 acres of corn and soybeans south of Hampton. “Our input – the cost to put this crop in the ground – is going up, and our prices are not. … We just have a lot going on all at once.” |

Hey folks! Rita Hart here. |
The federal government is, once again, approaching a shutdown under Trump. During a shutdown, America’s military personnel won’t receive paychecks. Flights will be delayed and canceled because TSA agents won’t get paid for their shifts. Social Security offices will shut down. A shutdown would affect every American in some way. |
This could all happen just because Republicans are attempting to pass a funding bill that allows the Affordable Care Act’s tax credits to expire. This will raise the average cost of annual premiums for Iowans an average of $1,000. |
Republicans have control of the House and the Senate. The ball’s in their court, and Trump has given them standing orders to work on a budget resolution by themselves. |
Every day it’s becoming clearer Iowa Republicans are leaving working folks in the dust. It is getting harder and harder to make ends meet and Republicans are not doing anything to lower costs. Iowans deserve better. We need to elect leaders who will step up and make sure working families are getting the necessary medical care that allows them to live healthy lives.
