Dear john,Over the weekend, NYT Opinion Columnist Nicholas Kristof published a piece from Uganda on the devastating impacts of foreign aid cuts by the White House.Kristof notes credible, academic estimates by experts suggest the child death toll may be in the hundreds of thousands in 2025 alone and are likely to increase by next year.He also disputes the idea that closing down USAID, the agency responsible for distributing this aid, will at least be saving taxpayer dollars. Internal administration estimates suggest that shutting down the agency will cost American taxpayers over $6.4 billion!As the Trump administration continues pushing proposals to cancel billions more in foreign aid, I'm worried that countless more children around the world will die preventable deaths and our standing in the international community will continue to fall.
