Republicans just launched an attack ad claiming that I want to shut down the government — along with a few other outlandish claims. They spent money to share this ad in my district to try to destroy my reputation ahead of the midterms.

Republican strategists will say whatever they can to gain support for their horrible budget bill, but let me be perfectly clear - I’m not going down without a fight.

Let’s break down their lies and set the record straight:

Claim #1: Democrats want to abolish ICE.
Reality: No. What we do oppose is turning ICE into Trump’s personal militia. The “Big Beautiful Bill” Republicans passed gives ICE more money, more power, and no oversight. No one man should have that much unchecked control — that’s how authoritarian regimes work, and we won’t stand for it.

Claim #2: Democrats are hurting veterans.
Reality: Their so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” will actually raise costs for veterans, kicking people (including vets) off Medicaid, and cut support for 680,000 children of working veterans. It’s a complete disaster for our veterans and their families.

Claim #3: Democrats are putting police pay at risk.
Reality: Trump’s DOJ already cut $500 million from local policing and justice programs. Republicans are the ones defunding the police — not us.

Let’s be clear: Republicans have had full control of the House since 2023. They could pass a funding resolution and avoid a government shutdown right now — but their dysfunction and inability to govern is exactly why they can’t.

So instead, they point fingers.

I don’t want a government shutdown. No Democrat does. But we also can’t endorse a reckless, authoritarian power grab that continues gutting health care, defunding our communities, and handing Donald Trump and his MAGA allies unchecked control.
