The statists use every crisis to go after more of your rights.

Charlie Kirk was assassinated less than two weeks ago, and Big Government politicians from the right and left wasted no time to use that tragedy for their own agenda.

And make no mistake about it, part of that agenda is to silence people like you and me.

Their target once again is Section 230 of the Communications Act, with Senators Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Dick Durbin (D-IL) leading the charge.

Section 230 was enacted as part of the Communications Decency Act in 1996 and provides immunity for online services for content published by third-party users on their platforms.

It includes provisions that protect service providers from being liable for content posted by third-party users, as well as protection from liability for the voluntary good faith removal of third-party content the operator finds objectionable – whether it's constitutionally protected or not.

Section 230 isn’t a partisan issue. It’s about free speech and the ability for all citizens to speak freely.

If Section 230 didn’t exist, online speech for millions of Americans would ultimately be canceled, since companies would be assuming massive legal responsibility for every word posted on their website.

Lawmakers from both parties have tried and failed to amend or repeal the law for years, and both President Donald Trump and former President Joe Biden have spoken out against the law or tried to limit its protections.

And you might remember just last year Hillary Clinton doubled down on her demands to censor the Internet – and in doing so, she gave Democrats their marching orders.

This after Hillary demanded Americans who repeat what she deems “misinformation” should not only be censored but criminally prosecuted.

(Never mind that her 2016 campaign pushed the debunked Steele Dossier, and her statist friends – so-called intelligence experts – falsely said the Hunter Biden laptop story was disinformation . . . but to them, the truth doesn’t matter and the rules are different for them.)

But Hillary has called for social networks to be held liable for everything posted by their millions (sometimes billions) of users.

You see, according to Section 230, platforms such as Facebook and Twitter/X cannot be held liable as a publisher for what their users post, because they are simply a platform.

Without that Section 230 protection, online speech would be practically eliminated entirely.

Imagine if a social network with millions of users could be held liable for the speech of every single one of them. They would have to review and approve every post and every comment. It would be completely unworkable. You can also see these networks simply automatically blocking keywords and shutting up anyone with a dissenting point of view.

It would go beyond rampant censorship. It would shut everything down.

That’s why it’s critical we tell Congress right now: HANDS OFF SECTION 230 ([link removed])!

It’s true that in some cases, companies like Google have tried to use Section 230 beyond its purpose, to claim immunity from any liability for arbitrarily censoring and deplatforming their own users.

But the answer to that is not to weaken legal protections for online speech.

When legitimate laws are broken, they should be enforced by the courts.

And users can choose to take their business to a friendlier platform.

If Section 230 is repealed, and Hillary Clinton, Sen. Lindsay Graham (R-SC), Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL), and their cohorts get their way, there won’t be any escaping the censorship.

You can rest assured, if the government could attack online platforms for the speech of any given user, it would not only shut down the pesky free speech platforms, but also give them leverage to control speech on the others – as they did to manipulate public opinion during the pandemic.

The statists are anxious to shut you and me up. There are more than enough villains speaking against free speech right now:

- John Kerry (who like Hillary was once a Democrat presidential nominee and a political has-been) whined at the World Economic Forum the First Amendment is “the major roadblock” to “stamping out” misinformation;

- Former Vice Presidential candidate Tim Walz falsely claimed the First Amendment doesn’t protect all speech. He repeated this false statement (misinformation) in front of tens of millions of Americans watching the vice presidential debate last year.

- When she was a senator, Former Vice President Kamala Harris introduced a constitutional amendment to eliminate the free speech protections upheld in the Citizens United case – a case brought about because citizens were silenced from criticizing Hillary Clinton herself. Every U.S. Senate Democrat voiced support for killing your right to free speech.

-And just a few weeks ago, Republican Lindsey Graham appeared on Meet the Press and said, "Section 230 needs to be repealed. If you're mad at social media companies that radicalize our nation, you should be mad. I have a bill that will allow you to sue these people."

Patriot, people who once cherished free speech have now become its mortal enemy.
