TAKE ACTION: Tell Congress we demand a budget that supports our healthcare, working families, and democracy – NOT Trump’s cruelty and billionaire handouts >>
John, federal funding runs out in one week – and every Member of Congress has a choice to make.
They can either rubber stamp Trump’s unpopular, billionaire-first agenda that makes us less safe, less healthy, and less free – or they can pass a People’s Budget that invests in families, communities, and democracy.
Democrats have real leverage in this budget fight – and we’re demanding they use it. Because no matter what your Members of Congress say about protecting democracy, it means nothing if they turn around and hand Trump a blank check to keep tearing it to pieces.
We’re urging every single member of Congress – Republican, Democratic, or Independent – to put the people they represent first. That means:
-
Reversing Medicaid cuts and extending ACA premium tax credits so everyone can get care.
-
Funding schools, WIC, Head Start, low-income home energy assistance, and public media so every American has the basics to thrive.
-
Fully funding our elections – while pushing back against Trump’s cruel immigration raids, secret police, and National Guard crackdowns.
Tell Congress: No blank checks for Trump. Reject his cruel billionaire agenda and pass a budget that invests in our communities and democracy >>
John, Trump and Republicans simply cannot be trusted at their word.
Back in March, Democrats cut a deal with Republicans to keep the government open – giving up their only leverage. [1] Trump pocketed the win, then tore those deals up by cutting billions of dollars in funding for PBS and foreign aid [2]
Let’s be clear: That failure to meet the moment gave Trump everything he wanted – and emboldened his authoritarian agenda. We can’t let our members of Congress make this mistake again.
This time around, Trump kicked off talks by flatly refusing to negotiate with Democrats – saying “Don’t even bother dealing with them.” [3]
Now, with just one week left before funding runs out, Trump just announced that he's cancelling his meeting with Democratic leadership at the last minute. [4] If there’s a shutdown, it’ll be the direct result of Trump’s reckless games and bad-faith delays.
Members of Congress from both sides of the aisle have rightfully expressed concerns with Trump’s cruel cuts. But as a Common Cause member, you know talk is cheap. What matters is how they vote. And this vote will show exactly whose side they’re on.
Tell Congress: Pass a People’s Budget that puts families, communities, and democracy first >>
A budget is a moral document. Trump and his allies are pushing one written for billionaires, shredding healthcare and our basic needs, like education and nutrition, to reward the wealthy. We deserve better.
Thanks for all you do,
