Dear Revealer,
When the press gets intimidated into self-censorship and playing it safe, fear wins. But at the Center for Investigative Reporting, we’re not backing down. As the nonprofit that brings you Reveal ([link removed]) and More To The Story ([link removed]) , the documentary films of CIR Studios ([link removed]) , and Mother Jones ([link removed]) ’ investigative journalism, we’re doubling down on the fearless reporting you depend on.
That’s why I’m so excited we’ve received a $50,000 Matching Gift Challenge.
Every dollar you give online through September 30 ([link removed])
will be matched dollar for dollar. It’s exactly what we need right now—an opportunity for your support to go twice as far.

As a nonprofit news operation, fundraising is a year-round necessity and balancing the annual budget is always a high-wire act. But reader, listener, and viewer support is also what sets us apart and affords us an independence that advertising-driven media doesn’t have. Because 70 percent of our funding comes from supporters like you, our nonprofit newsroom simply can’t be bought or silenced. We go after wrongdoing, corruption, grift, and abuses of power without fear that a billionaire owner or the business department will yank us back.
So please make a gift now. Be part of a $100,000 surge in funding to keep independent journalism alive and thriving. ([link removed])
Every dollar counts!

Through September 30, your donation will be matched dollar for dollar. Please don’t delay.
Meanwhile, while we scrap for every dollar we need to run our nonprofit newsroom, all it took was a vindictive whim and the stroke of a pen for President Donald Trump to wipe away $1.1 billion in funding for public media.
Killing federal funding for public media is something that hits close to home here. Our award-winning show Reveal ([link removed]) airs on hundreds of public radio stations nationwide. Many of those stations—especially in rural communities—will be forced to cut back or go dark when funding starts running out this fall.
Created in 1967 with bipartisan support, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting is a cornerstone of America’s media infrastructure. And now it’s being dismantled as political payback, a vendetta against any outlet Trump considers insufficiently loyal.
But here’s where he miscalculated: We are not backing down. And we’re certainly not shutting up.
When public media is under attack and corporate media caves under pressure, it is essential that independent, people-powered outlets like the Center for Investigative Reporting rise to the challenge. And you’re helping to make it happen.
Individual contributions from supporters like you are what keep our newsroom activated and inspired in the most challenging times. That’s why a generous board member has brought us this opportunity to double the funding necessary to spark action, improve lives, and protect our democracy through groundbreaking storytelling.
Your partnership is as important as ever. Please make your gift now to our Matching Gift Challenge when your generosity goes twice as far. ([link removed])
