Here’s the truth, John: We are working day and night to pass Proposition 50.

Prop 50 — the Election Rigging Response Act — is our defense against Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans’ gerrymandering scheme to rig Congress in their favor before next year’s midterm elections even begin.

We must pass Prop 50. It’s the only way to stop Trump from stealing seats and silencing millions of Californians before ballots are even cast.

But this special election is consuming significant resources that we weren’t expecting to tap into in 2025. And that means after this special election, we will be pacing behind when it comes to funds to open regional offices, staff competitive U.S. House districts, and more.

We hate to be so blunt, John: But after November, there are only two paths forward:

1️⃣ We pass Prop 50 (which we are fighting to do!) and suddenly have to adopt our entire U.S. House strategy to new maps. This is the best possible outcome with Trump trying to rig the 2026 midterms, but it still presents numerous logistical challenges that we will need resources to face.

2️⃣ We don’t pass Prop 50, and Donald Trump successfully stacks the deck in his favor for 2026. That puts MORE urgency and pressure on flipping seats from red to blue in California than ever before.

Right now, the California Democratic Party is working hard to get Prop 50 passed while also preparing for both scenarios. We can’t be complacent or just hope for the best.
