This week, we saw two stories converge and paint a chilling picture of where this country is headed if we don’t fight back.

First, Disney pulled Jimmy Kimmel off the air after threats from the FCC — and by extension, the President of the United States. That is the federal government using its power to silence a critic. That is the collapse of free speech in real time. That is fascist.

Second, this weekend the Save America Movement ran our new Pledge Ad during the Auburn-Oklahoma and Texans-Jaguars games. In it, a young boy leads his classmates in the Pledge of Allegiance — not to the American flag, not to our country, but to Donald Trump.

It’s a fictional ad for now. But it’s not far from the future Trump and his enablers are trying to create: a nation where dissent is punished or nonexistent, where corporations bow to political threats, and where our children are raised to pledge loyalty to a man instead of the Constitution.

This is what will happen if we are weak. This is what will happen if we back down. And if we don’t stand up to authoritarians right now, it’s the world our children will inherit.

We cannot allow cowardice today to become their suffering tomorrow.
