We know that Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress are marching the country toward a government shutdown while slashing away at healthcare and economic opportunity. American families are counting on Democrats to fight back against these deeply unpopular cuts to vital programs.

Late last week, the Republican majority refused to negotiate with congressional Democrats about a solution that would protect millions of Americans from imminent healthcare cuts included the big, ugly bill. In fact, under this disastrous bill, about 3 million people will lose access to Affordable Care Act marketplace coverage, as it fails to renew premium tax credits enabling access.

Making matters worse, Republicans also refused to add language that would prevent the administration from undoing negotiated agreements later and rescinding funds just because it wants to. Clearly, Republicans would rather shut down the government than protect Americans from rising costs such as healthcare costs.

With less than 10 days before a potential government shutdown, lawmakers need to know we appreciate their courage to put people first, protecting our care, our families and our communities.
