Your input is needed to require documented proof of citizenship to vote.
Patriot–

Right now we need to make our voices heard. If you believe only citizens should register and vote in federal elections, now is your chance to let the bureaucrats in Washington know.

The U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) is currently taking public comment on a petition to require documentary proof of U.S. citizenship on the National Mail Voter Registration Form.  We have created an online form to submit your comments to the EAC.

The comment window closes Monday, October 20th.

In a brief statement, explain why proof of citizenship matters, how it protects everyone’s vote, and why it’s worth the little bit of work it takes to show proof. We put together a myth vs. fact sheet and below are some sample comments that you may find useful as you write your own comment.

Sample 1:

“To get a marriage license, open a bank account, or obtain a government-issued ID, you must show up in person with documentation. I hereby request that the U.S. Election Assistance Commission also require an in-person registration with documentation on the National Mail Voter Registration Form as a common-sense safeguard to protect our elections”

Sample 2:

“Under current federal law the National Mail Voter Registration Form only requires you to check a box and attest that you’re a citizen—no documentary proof is required, and election officials can’t verify it under current rules. We know that 10–27% of noncitizens reported being registered to vote. How would other nations act if U.S. citizens illegally voted in their elections? As a citizen of the United States and a voter, I respectfully call for the U.S. Election Assistance Commission to require proof of citizenship at registration, closing the loophole and setting a clear, uniform standard to secure American ballots now and for future generations.”

What about the SAVE Act?
This does not replace our push for the SAVE Act. Even if the EAC grants this petition and updates the federal form, we still need Congress to pass the SAVE Act so the standard is codified in law and can’t be rolled back by future bureaucrats. Think of this as doing both: take the win we can work on today while we keep pressing for the long-term win in Congress.

You can bet the Left will flood the EAC with comments against this. They despise the idea of requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote. Furthermore, this would be the rule under which the 2026 election would operate, even if the Senate hasn’t passed the SAVE Act by then.

Don’t sit this one out. It may seem like one of those actions that doesn’t matter much, or you might think other people will leave enough comments to drown out the Left’s—but both of these thoughts are incorrect! The EAC will not make this rule change if it looks like Americans don’t care. It will also make it much harder to get the SAVE Act passed because the senators who oppose it or are on the fence will see that our side doesn’t care enough to submit a simple comment.

If you’ve worked elections, include what you’ve seen. Make sure you point out that those who are opposed to this rule change lie when they say it will disenfranchise voters, such as married women who have changed their last names.

Ask the EAC to grant the petition and amend its regulations and the federal registration form accordingly
