Dear PRH Community,
Today, the Trump Administration spread dangerous disinformation about Tylenol use in pregnancy. Physicians for Reproductive Health is committed to ensuring patients and the public have access to evidence-based information.
Dr. Mariana Montes, a former pediatrician, obstetric anesthesiologist in Illinois, and PRH Fellow, responds:
|
”As both a pediatrician and obstetrical anesthesiologist, I know from the evidence that Tylenol use during pregnancy and breastfeeding is extremely safe. Pregnant people need safe options to manage pain, and Tylenol is a well-studied, safe, and effective option that should not be restricted.
The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has issued repeated clinical guidelines naming Tylenol as safe and effective. Those guidelines will not change because of today’s false claims.
The Trump Administration and RFK Jr. are fearmongering—confusing patients and worsening stigma—rather than focusing on real public health crises like abortion bans, attacks on gender-affirming care, and our nation’s maternal and infant mortality crisis. The evidence is clear: Tylenol is safe.” |
This disinformation campaign is part of a broader political effort to sow fear, stigmatize pregnant people, and undermine trust in science and medicine. PRH will continue to stand firm in defending evidence-based care and ensuring patients have the information they need to make safe, informed decisions.
But we can’t do this work alone. Countering dangerous disinformation and uplifting science takes resources—and we need your help.
Make a gift today to help us fight misinformation and protect reproductive health, rights, and justice.
Thank you for standing with us in protecting truth, science, and reproductive freedom.
In solidarity,
