Dear JOHN, I am honored to introduce myself as the new Chair of Educated We Stand. For more than 20 years, I’ve fought for students, families, and educators—first as a special education teacher, then as a union leader, and now as Vice President of the American Federation of Teachers. I am also the past president of United Teachers of Dade (UTD), the largest teachers union in the southeastern United States. I proudly served as UTD president for nine years, from 2016 to 2025, where I led efforts to secure the largest teacher pay increases in Miami-Dade’s history through two successful countywide referendums. My mission has always been the same: to ensure every child has access to a high-quality education, and every educator has the respect and resources they need to make that possible. Now, I’m taking that mission to Educated We Stand because I know what’s at stake. Moms for Liberty and their extremist allies are doing everything they can to dismantle public education. They are running for school boards, trying to silence teachers, and pushing a dangerous agenda into our classrooms. But here’s the good news: we can beat them—and we already have. In 2024 and 2025, Educated We Stand helped elect education champions to school boards across the country, stopping Moms for Liberty’s extremist candidates in their tracks.
