For National Suicide Prevention Month, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is continuing to highlight our September theme, “Looking Out for Each Other.”

Connecting with each other is one of the foremost ways we can each play a role in saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide. The good news is that there so many different ways –– both big and small –– to make connections, find support, and help your community. You can participate in person at one of our Out of the Darkness Walks, sign up to become a Volunteer Advocate, or make a quick visit to the AFSP Action Center to demand action from your federal and state public officials in a matter of minutes.

But connecting can also be as simple as sharing an AFSP post to social media, or starting a conversation with someone you think may be struggling. Every action you take makes a big difference.

Connect With AFSP

This September, here are just a few ways you can get involved with AFSP’s community:

- Join a [Community Walk]([link removed]) near you! AFSP's Out of the Darkness Walks bring nearly a quarter of a million people together each year, sending the message that suicide can no longer exist in the shadows, and raising much-needed awareness and funds for this leading cause of death.

- Register for a [Caring Communities]([link removed]) presentation. At 7 p.m. ET on September 30, attend a presentation of Caring Communities: Guidance for Supporting Survivors of Suicide Loss –– AFSP’s new education program about how to support someone who has experienced a recent loss to suicide.

- Shop the [Happiness Project]([link removed]) capsule! For National Suicide Prevention Month, Happiness Project is donating 100% of profits from its limited-edition AFSP x Happiness Project Hoodie + Tee directly to AFSP. This September, every purchase helps us fund our mission to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide.

- Learn about our new [Hard Hat Courage]([link removed]) initiative. In partnership with Bechtel, AFSP founded Hart Hat Courage to confront high rates of suicide in the construction community, and to evolve the industry into one that prioritizes mental health alongside physical safety.

- Advocate for mental health! Visit our [Action Center]([link removed]) to learn how you can help ensure that federal and state public officials prioritize lifesaving mental health and suicide prevention programs.

For our most recent events, make sure to check our [national calendar]([link removed]).
