John,
It’s disgraceful that corporations continue to rake in record profits by exploiting the labor of their workers. Every worker deserves a living wage and human dignity on the job.
Did you know that the CEO of Walmart made $274 million last year? That’s 930 times that of the average Walmart employee who made $29,469. Coca-Cola’s CEO made 1,980 times that of their average worker who makes $14,144 a year.
In the 1960s and 70s, CEOs made roughly 20 to 30 times more than their workers. Today, CEOs of major corporations are making 290 times that of their average worker.
That’s why I’ve introduced the Tax Excessive CEO Pay Act with Senator Bernie Sanders. Our bill would tax corporations whose top executives are paid more than 50 times that of their workers. Corporations with a 50-to-1 CEO-to-worker pay ratio would pay another 0.5% in taxes while a company with a 500-to-1 ratio would pay 5% more.
As Bernie Sanders said:
“We can no longer tolerate a rigged economy that enables the richest man in the world, Elon Musk, to become the first trillionaire while 60% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck and millions work longer hours for lower wages.”
Add your now as a grassroots co-sponsor of the Tax Excessive CEO Pay Act to demand Congress act!
Together, we’ll never stop demanding workers be paid a fair wage and corporations and CEOs start paying their fair share in taxes.
Thank you,
Rashida

John,
Greedy corporations and their CEOs have never had it so good. They’re price gouging consumers while CEOs are making 290 times that of their average worker.
To put this in context, the typical Starbucks worker would need to work 6,600 years to make what their CEO made last year―$95.8 million!
At the same time, Tesla’s board of directors is considering a nearly $1 trillion pay package to Elon Musk, who is already the richest man in the world.
That’s why Bernie Sanders and I have introduced the Tax Excessive CEO Pay Act to tax corporations that pay their top executives more than 50 times their average worker.
At a time when billionaire wealth in the U.S. has reached a record $7.6 trillion and when 60% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck, this bill would put a constraint on excessive CEO pay packages and encourage corporations to raise workers’ wages.
Tell Congress to act by adding your name as a grassroots co-sponsor of the Tax Excessive CEO Pay Act.
Sixty-two percent of Americans are in favor of putting a cap on CEO pay, relative to worker pay. Even Pope Leo has endorsed reining in CEO pay:
If the Tax Excessive CEO Pay Act becomes law, and Tesla’s board approves Elon Musk’s nearly $1 trillion pay package, Tesla would owe up to $100 billion more in taxes over the next decade.
Add your name as a grassroots co-sponsor of the Tax Excessive CEO Pay Act now to demand Congress act.
Together, we’re demanding an economy that works for everyday people, not just wealthy CEOs and corporations.
In solidarity,
Rashida
