Optimas Solutions has introduced the QuickShip program from its Wood Dale, Ill., headquarters to address inventory shortages for OEMs and distributors. The program reduces lead times for externally threaded fasteners to one to four weeks from the industry standard of 8 to 16 weeks. CEO Daniel Harms says the program uses in-house engineering and local partnerships for secondary processes, ensuring high-quality, certified parts are available quickly.

Ninety-six percent of North American and European shippers and logistics service providers are using generative AI for transportation management, primarily for data entry, route optimization, freight forecasting and automated load matching, according to a Descartes Systems Group survey. However, the survey also highlights a digital maturity gap, with only 17% of respondents fully automated. Investment in transportation management systems is increasing, with 80% of respondents planning to boost spending.

People with disabilities are being trained through Aspire for warehouse jobs such as distribution specialist and warehouse associate, says Amanda Hedberg, the company's vice president of strategic initiatives and partnerships. Trainees receive hands-on learning in a simulated warehouse environment, practicing order picking, shipping and receiving. Accommodations -- like visual checklists -- can make these environments more accessible, and many participants excel in both standard and special project roles, Hedberg says.
