In case you missed it... my name has been in the headlines quite a bit this past week.

I’m facing incredibly racist and fascist attacks from all sides, from Nancy Mace, to Donald Trump, to the folks at Fox News.

So given all the noise, I wanted to take a minute to reset and tell you a little story about who I am and how I got here.

My name is Ilhan Omar, and I am the proud representative of Minnesota’s 5th district in Congress.


My family came to America as refugees without a penny to our name. It wasn’t easy to get by.

After my father landed his first job it became clear that one minimum wage job wasn’t going to be enough, and that we all needed to chip in.

I started cleaning office buildings and throughout high school and college worked as a cashier, security guard, educator, and policy analyst to make ends meet.

When I first ran for office to challenge a 44-year incumbent, I was told that I wouldn’t raise money or be competitive without a network of wealthy friends and donors.

But they were wrong, it was friends and neighbors like you who made donations of $5, $10, or $20 to help us mobilize and win.

And that’s still the case — I don’t take corporate PAC money or lobbyist money. I rely on small donations from supporters like you to fuel our campaign and make sure we defeat the billionaires who are trying to buy our elections and have power over policymakers in Washington.

Trump’s attacks on free speech, his weaponization of the justice system, and his increasingly fascist declarations from the Oval Office represent an existential threat to our nation. Today more than ever, we need working class leaders who will fight Trump and the oligarchs who fund him and push for the transformational change we need.

So, friend, I am humbly asking for your support today as we continue to take on the repeated attacks from the far-right and fight for a more progressive vision of the future.

Chip in $5, $10, $20, or really anything you can afford today. We are about a week away from a huge FEC fundraising deadline. This is the perfect time to flex the grassroots power of this movement and prove to Trump, Nancy Mace, and the entire far-right that their attacks only make us stronger and more determined to win.
