BREAKING: Rep. Don Bacon and I just introduced a bipartisan bill to repeal Trump’s pointless tariffs on coffee.
Americans drink about 400 million cups of coffee daily, yet the U.S. supplies less than 1 percent of the coffee we drink. 80 percent of our coffee is imported from countries like Brazil, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Colombia. By slapping 15 to 20 percent tariffs on these countries, Trump is taxing Americans before breakfast.

Our country exists because our founders opposed an irrational tariff on tea. Reagan’s tariffs in the 1980s exempted coffee. Coffee is used as a textbook example of the need for international trade. Trump’s pointless coffee tariffs won’t create jobs here at home because we don’t have the right climate to support a coffee industry.
