Friend,
Families across the country are paying higher energy bills, and it's not just inflation. Increased energy demand from an influx of data centers and extreme weather has strained our power grids. Instead of stepping up to meet this challenge with affordable, reliable clean energy, utilities across the country are clinging to costly and polluting fossil fuels.
That’s the finding of the Sierra Club's fifth annual Dirty Truth Report, which exposes how 75 of the nation's largest utilities are failing to live up to their own climate promises.
Here are some of our biggest takeaways:
⚠️ Collectively, utilities scored just 15 out of 100 -- an "F."
◀️ 60% made no progress or did worse than in our first report in 2021.
📈 Utilities aren't planning enough clean energy to replace fossil fuels.
The solution is simple: clean energy is cheaper, healthier, and more reliable than fossil fuels. But utilities can't have it both ways -- making bold climate pledges in press releases while quietly doubling down on coal and gas. |
