| From significant delays in children’s reunification with their families, to increased ICE raids and arrests leading to more family separations, new government policies and actions are wearing down the power of our community. Yet through all this fear, we hold on tightly to the power that our Child Advocates hold in their accompaniment of immigrant children: in the safe, restorative space that emerges between them in the hour they share each week, where a child is encouraged to just be a child. Learn how our Child Advocate Program, as well as our other programs at the Young Center, have grown to ensure that we are at a child’s side, in the very center of this storm. . |

Our Chief Program Officer Jennifer Nagda will be speaking at the 10 year anniversary of the ABA Children’s Immigration Law Academy (CILA) on September 23 at 2:00 p.m. as part of a roundtable discussion with experts working with unaccompanied youth to discuss how far we’ve come in the last ten years, recent setbacks, and what we can work towards for the future of the unaccompanied children’s program.
The event will be hosted by CILA’s Director and co-founder Dalia Castillo-Granados, and will also include speakers from the Acacia Center for Justice, KIND, and National Center for Youth Law. The conversation will highlight the progress of unaccompanied children's rights, current challenges, and future strategies for working with unaccompanied children. This webinar is geared towards anyone at a legal service provider who works with unaccompanied children, including attorneys, social workers, and legal staff, but all are welcome!

This year, our Young Center Community has come out in a big way. Together, we've signed up 502 registrants, raised $77,000 towards our $100,000 goal and completed 12,186 miles!
We're halfway through September and we are elated with our progress so far. Help us get to the finish line!
You still have one week left to join our Virtual Waymakers Mileage Challenge as we continue to walk in solidarity for immigrant children.
Help us log 20,000 miles: 1 mile for every year we’ve been fighting for immigrant children’s rights and to raise $1 for every mile logged. |

On September 18th, a federal court issued a preliminary injunction that halted the deportation of Guatemalan children from the U.S. This decision brings a moment of relief for unaccompanied Guatemalan children, who have been anxiously waiting to hear back on their cases since the Trump administration forcibly tried to send them back to Guatemala in the dead of night over Labor Day weekend.
The decision also recognized the tireless work of advocates in this case, including the Young Center’s role as a trusted advocate for unaccompanied children, noting its unique role as Child Advocate under federal law and its advocacy experience for more than 7,000 children in custody over the years.
As our work protecting children from misleading claims and rushed removal efforts continues, we won't hesitate to act. Join us as we stand with stand with every child. |
