Email from Rep. Gonzales Honoring Charlie Kirk As a nation, we must come together to condemn political violence. On Monday, I joined my colleagues on Capitol Hill for a vigil to remember the life of Charlie Kirk. His commitment to lead a life of faith and conviction will never be forgotten. This week, I sponsored Speaker Johnson's resolution to formally recognize Charlie's life's work. The resolution was passed on Friday by the U.S. House of Representatives. PICTURED: Congressman Gonzales attending a vigil on Capitol Hill in honor of Charlie Kirk School Safety and Security Caucus As founding member and Chairman of the Bipartisan School Safety and Security Caucus, I am fighting for policies to strengthen and prepare school campuses against outside threats. On Thursday, I hosted this year's first caucus roundtable and led an important discussion on making school security a key part of the congressional agenda. On a bipartisan basis, my congressional colleagues and I met with school safety specialists from the National Association of School Resource Officers and the National Council of School Safety Directors, and discussed best practices to make schools across America more secure. From exploring new grants to hire additional law enforcement personnel to deploying cutting-edge technologies in support of school safety, we had a very positive discussion and I will continue to make this issue a priority in Congress. This important legislation is critical to our armed forces and I am extremely pleased that it contained many of my legislative priorities -- from military base improvements across our district to better pay and quality of life initiatives for our troops in Texas. In addition, my amendment to leverage San Antonio as a key military hub for any future defense restructuring also PASSED as part of the NDAA. This amendment, supported by the entire San Antonio congressional delegation, directs the Department of Defense to take into account San Antonio's well-established military infrastructure and geographical strengths in ongoing considerations by the Pentagon to consolidate United States Army North and United States Army South into a newly formed Western Hemisphere Command. This effort is critical to making sure that San Antonio remains a key post for essential military jobs and operations. Making Constituent Services a Priority It is always a pleasure meeting with TX-23 residents when I'm in Washington.
