There have been times in my life when it was hard to see the way forward. When it feels like you’ve got the weight of the world on your shoulders. When hope was hard to come by.

It's not easy. I get it.

A pretty smart guy named Viktor Frankl had some thoughts on how you keep going through tough times. “Those who have a ‘why’ to live, can bear with almost any ‘how.’”

You have to find a purpose, and that purpose often centers on love. Love for your family, for your friends, for your ideals, for your country. And sometimes that purpose is just to keep going, no matter what.

I know my purpose. For my entire life, I’ve served this country. After my family, my purpose has been to defend our Constitution, our democracy, our people — and to do the most good I can for them.

This team has been a huge part of that, and I can’t thank you enough. And you can be sure: I am not going to quit. I am not going to be quiet. I am going to keep standing up and doing what I think is right.

But, just as always, I can’t do this work alone.
