Which is exactly what Trump and his Republican allies are trying to prevent. They want to satisfy Trump’s demand to keep the files buried, without ever having to cast a public vote that puts them on the side of protecting child sex traffickers.
Rep. Ro Khanna and Rep. Thomas Massie are leading the bipartisan discharge petition. Every Democrat has signed on, along with four Republicans: Massie, Lauren Boebert, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Nancy Mace. But without that last signature, Republicans will continue to hide behind procedural maneuvers instead of showing the country where they really stand.
Which raises the question: why is Trump so adamant these files never see the light of day? What does he know that the rest of us don’t?

The evidence already released is creepy. House Democrats unveiled Trump’s 50th birthday note in Epstein’s “birthday book,” where Trump inscribed his message inside the outline of a woman’s body: “A pal is a wonderful thing. Happy Birthday -- and may every day be another wonderful secret.” He signed it “Donald,” positioned right where no one could miss it.
What “wonderful secret” was Trump referring to? And why has the FBI repeatedly blacked out Trump’s name in Epstein-related documents?
Survivors of Epstein’s abuse have been crystal clear: the files must be released so their abusers can be held accountable. But instead of standing with the victims, Trump and Speaker Johnson throw up roadblocks -- phony DOJ document dumps, an early recess, even Johnson’s bizarre claim that Trump was an FBI informant, which quickly collapsed under ridicule.
As Rep. Khanna put it: refusing to release the files “erodes public trust and faith in our institutions.” What’s more: it shields the powerful, while betraying the victims.
This is the moment of truth. One more signer forces Congress to act. One more signer ensures that every member goes on the record.
