Last week Lillian’s List proudly honored Justice Allison Riggs with our Jan Allen Courage Award — a recognition of her hard-fought victory and her unwavering commitment to justice.
Justice Riggs’ path to the North Carolina Supreme Court was not easy. After she won her election, her opponent attempted to undermine the results — trying to cast doubt, sow confusion, and ultimately steal the seat away from her. It was political nonsense straight out of the Republican playbook. But she stood strong, defended her victory, and today she serves on the highest court in our state.
We honored Justice Riggs not just for her courage in that moment, but because her story is a warning: Republicans are willing to do whatever it takes to roll back progress, silence women, and seize power — even when voters have spoken clearly.
That’s why, beginning in 2026, the Lillian’s List PAC will expand our endorsements to include statewide judicial races. We know what’s coming. We’ve seen it with Justice Riggs. And we are preparing now to protect future candidates like her from partisan attacks designed to strip away both their victories and our rights.
For nearly 30 years, Lillian’s List has been the only organization in North Carolina solely dedicated to recruiting, training, and electing progressive, pro-choice women.
And the results are undeniable: we have supported nearly 100 women and invested over $1 million directly into our endorsed candidates’ campaigns. Every progressive woman currently serving in the General Assembly and Council of State has won with the help of Lillian’s List.
But the stakes are higher than ever.
Republicans in the General Assembly continue to push laws that take away our reproductive rights, weaken our voting rights, and dismantle access to healthcare. And here we are — in September — with no state budget in sight. If more women were in the room, we would not be here. We would have a budget that reflects our values and a government that works for families.
Our work is urgent, and our plan is bold.
Our goal for 2026 is to provide the maximum allowable PAC contributions to every Featured Candidate in both their primaries and general elections. That means raising the funds necessary that will go straight into the campaigns of women who will protect reproductive freedom, voting rights, and justice in North Carolina.
Justice Allison Riggs showed us both the challenges ahead and the power of perseverance. Let’s honor her courage by ensuring she is not alone.
