Listen To the Children Crying"Help us," a mother & her children cried. Los Angeles stood with them to say, "We will shine a light."
The most important two words we heard in Los Angeles were, “Help us.” It was the plea of a mother and two children whose father was taken from his job during an ICE raid at a local car wash. More than 15 local organizations came together in LA’s MacArthur Park yesterday to stand with this family and thousands of others to say, “You are not alone.” The Save America Movement has partnered with this local moral fusion coalition to bring three Liberty Vans to shine a light on what’s happening in Los Angeles. With local clergy, we blessed these vans to shine the light of truth on all that’s happening here. As we wrote yesterday - and affirmed with the community is a mass meeting Friday night - we have a moral mandate to expose the evil that is happening in our name. But we also need to shine a light on the way the City of Angeles is showing the nation what will end the abuses of power and Presidential overreach we are suffering. In dozens of communities on the ground, faith leaders have been working alongside local citizen groups and rapid response networks to keep kids safe on the way to school, meet families’ immediate needs, challenge the lies that have been told about this community, and sustain a nonviolent moral resistance. It was a gift to gather with faith leaders who’ve been on the frontlines of this sacred work and hear their stories. Whenever angels show up in the Bible, the first thing they tell us is, “Don’t be afraid.” The City of Angels is showing us how to overcome fear with the power of love. We need to shine a light on this powerful moral witness too. Los Angeles is showing us the way out of the darkness that has descended on so much of our public life. We need to let this light in every community. You’re currently a free subscriber to Our Moral Moment w/ Bishop William Barber & Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove.
