Donald Trump is making everything worse. As the President, he commands unparalleled media attention and influence over the way our government works. 50,000 new cases of COVID were diagnosed yesterday, and his plan is to hope that it’s going to “just disappear.”

This magical thinking didn’t work in February, when he said COVID will disappear “like a miracle.”¹

It didn’t work in March, when he announced that the virus would be gone by Easter.²

It didn’t work in April, when he sympathized with armed militias occupying state houses in defiance of social distancing orders.³

It didn’t work in May, when he said that the US had “met the moment and prevailed” against the virus.⁴

And it definitely didn’t work in June, when new COVID cases hit record highs over and over again.

John, it is not going to disappear on its own. This is an emergency, and it’s killing people. 128,000 Americans are dead―nearly half of them seniors.
